First Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

Michael Schumacher sets a stunning lap time of 1:32.978 which was over seven tenths faster than the time set by his team-mate Rubens Barrichello in second. Ralf Schumacher managed 3rd fastest but over 1.1 seconds off the pace while David Coulthard was 4th ahead of Kimi Raikkonen who couldn't match his best time from yesterday indicating that he was indeed running on low fuel at the time. Juan Pablo Montoya managed 6th fastest and is over half a second slower than his team-mate.
Jarno Trulli managed the best of the rest in 7th but was over 2.35 seconds off the pace. Irvine, Fisichella and Massa were all close behind.

There were no incidents during the session as all the drivers are extra careful not to damage their cars before the all important qualifying session.

While the Michelin runners seem to still have an advantage, the Bridgestone runners are closing in. Still only 4 runners out of the top 10 were on Bridgestones.

Jacques Villeneuve and Takuma Sato covered the most number of laps with 12 followed by Alex Yoong and Olivier Panis with 11 laps each. Allan McNish covered the least number of laps with 4 after his car experienced engine problems.

With the temperatures moving upwards and the teams moving closer to running similar fuel loads in preparation for qualifying, we'll see how much the gap is between Ferrari, Williams and McLaren in the second practice session.
