Warm-up Session Report - Results

Mika Hakkinen set the fastest time of the session just 0.001 seconds ahead of Michael Schumacher. Rubens Barrichello managed to set the 3rd fastest time following a bad qualifying session yesterday while David Coulthard set the 4th fastest time ahead of Jarno Trulli and Kimi Raikkonen.

Pole setter, Ralf Schumacher had a problematic session and had to settle for 17th fastest. It is not clear what his problems were although he did cover a reasonable amount of laps with 15.

A few spins from the drivers but no major incidents during the session. Giancarlo Fisichella covered the most number of laps with 18 followed by Trulli with 17. Jenson Button being the last to set a timed lap only managed 9 laps. Tarso Marques also covered just 9 laps. All other drivers covered between 11 and 16 laps each.

The race is usually a two stop strategy but we could see some teams opting for a 3 stopper or just a one stopper. Neither Ralf nor Montoya were fast this session so they could be trying a heavy fuel load for a single stop and taking a chance on their tyres.

The race will be an interesting one. It starts at 2:00 PM local time.
