Second Friday Practice Session Report - Results

Michael Schumacher sets the fastest time of the session ahead of his team-mate Rubens Barrichello and Giancarlo Fisichella. David Coulthard was 4th ahead of his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen with Heinz Harald Frentzen in 6th.
The Ferraris look untouchable at this stage with both Michael and Rubens around a second ahead of Fisichella while Coulthard is over 1.8 seconds behind.

Even though the rain eased and eventually stopped and a dry line started to appear on some areas of the track, not many drivers managed to improve their times significantly.
Juan Pablo Montoya managed to find a suitable setup and moved up into 9th ahead of his team-mate while the Toyota's continued to struggle and up mixed with the Minardi's at the back.

Michael Schumacher spun while tyring to improve on his best time and as he tried to recover appeared to have stalled. Jarno Trulli also ended his session early after losing his car and hitting the barriers. Almost every other drivers spun at same stage today however only those two ended their session early.

Jacques Villeneuve covered the most number of laps this session with 23 followed by Alex Yoong with 22. Jarno Trulli who crashed out of the session only managed 10 laps while Eddie Irvine only managed 11 laps as his mechanics spent a long time working on his car. All other drivers covered between 13 and 21 laps.

While Michelin and Bridgestone are evenly represented in the top 10, 4 of the top 6 are on Bridgestones

As is always the case on Friday and especially when it is wet, it is hard to read into the times set today. It does appear though that at this stage, Ferrari are strong while Williams who are expected to be their main threat are struggling.

Showers are forecast for the 2 practice sessions tomorrow and light rain during the qualifying session. Stay tuned!
