Second Saturday Practice Session Report - Results

It was the Williams' turn to dominate as they have made steady progress through the 4 practice session and ended up fastest just before qualifying.
Ralf Schumacher's time was a stunning 1:15.355 which is over 2 seconds faster than pole of last year. Juan Pablo Montoya was second 4/10ths behind his team-mate while Rubens Barrichello in the Ferrari was 3rd and the only other driver to clock a time under the 1:16 mark.
The sudden lack of pace demonstrated by the 2 McLaren's is very strange. Hakkinen in 4th set a time less than 4/10ths faster than his best yesterday while Coulthard in 5th also improved by a similar margin. Compare that to Ralf's improvement of 2 seconds and Barrichello's improvement of just under 2 seconds over his best yesterday and one has to wonder why haven't McLaren improved. Again qualifying will tell.

Michael Schumacher didn't cover any laps in this session as his car had mechanical problems that couldn't be fixed on time. He remains in 6th as a result of his time from the first session.

Jordan, BAR and Sauber take up the next 6 places with 0.6 seconds separating them while Irvine is in his usual spot in 13th place over half a second slower than 12th placed Villeneuve.

Several cars spun during the session but they all managed to recover.
Ralf Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello, David Coulthard and Luciano Burti covered the most number of laps this session with 19 laps each. Michael Schumacher didn't cover any laps while Tarso Marques only managed 8 laps. Most other drivers covered between 10 and 16 laps.
Overall, Luciano Burti covered the most number of lap from both sessions with 37 followed by Olivier Panis with 33 and David Coulthard with 32. Michael Schumacher covered the least number of laps with 12 followed by Kimi Raikkonen with 21. Most other drivers covered between 22 and 31 laps.

So with McLaren dominating the 2 Friday sessions, Michael Schumacher dominating the 1st Saturday session and the Williams' dominating the 2nd Saturday session, it will be a very interesting and exciting fight for pole position this afternoon.

Equally interesting will be the fight behind them between Jordan, BAR and Sauber but don't be surprised if one of these cars mixes with the top 6 cars.

Behind them expect Jaguar and Prost to fight for the 13th and 14th places with Arrows slightly behind while Benetton and Minardi make up the last 4 cars.
