Belgian GP - 1st Saturday Practice session:

Juan Pablo Montoya sets the fastest time of the session ahead of team-mate Ralf Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen. Coulthard, Barrichello, Fisichella, Irvine, Villeneuve, Button and Alesi.

45 min: And Montoya betters that with a time of 1:47.494. Hakkinen moves into 3rd ahead of Coulthard. Session over.

44 min: Giancarlo Fisichella goes 2nd with a time of 1:49.511. 

43 min: 2 minutes remaining and Michael Schumacher has yet to go out on dry tyres. He is in 19th place at the moment.

42 min: Rubens Barrichello improves in 1st while Villeneuve takes 3rd!

41 min: Frentzen in the Prost moves into 7th!.

38 min: Jean Alesi moves into 8th between the two BAR's

36 min: Jenson Button takes 10th place. He is 2.6 seconds off the pace.

33 min: The two Ferrari's are outside the top 10 and are in the Ferrari garage with work being done on them!

20 min: Juan Pablo Montoya is currently in 21st place and 14 seconds off the pace! He has covered only 3 laps.

17 min: Jarno Trulli and Nick Heidfeld have yet to set lap times.

15 min: Jean Alesi in the Jordan takes 6th with a time of 1:58.390.

14 min: Fisichella moves into 8th place with a time of 1:59.494.

13 min: Ralf Schumacher is now in 5th with a time of 1:58.076. He is 1.6 seconds off the pace.

12 min: Barrichello takes 3rd from Michael.

11 min: Mika Hakkinen goes fastest with a time of 1:56.449. Frentzen moves into 5th with a time of 2:00.173

10 min: Eddie Irvine moves into 4th with a time of 2:00.421

9 min: Barrichello, R Schumacher and Hakkinen are also on track.

8 min: M Schumacher, Coulthard and Frentzen are on the track.

7 min: Villeneuve improves and takes first with a time of 1:58.652. Both BAR drivers are on intermediates.

6 min: Panis retakes first place with a time of 1:58.847. Luciano Burti clocks a 2:03.316. Alonso and Irvine on track.

5 min: Jacques Villeneuve goes fastest with a time of 1:59.826.

4 min: Olivier Panis sets a the first time of the session with a 1:59.943.

3 min: A number of drivers stay on the track for another lap.

2 min: It is not raining at the moment. Parts of the track is dry while other parts are wet. The cars complete their shakedown lap.

Session underway and all the cars are on the track. The track is wet and all the cars are on either wets or intermediates.

Delayed again - The 1st Practice is now scheduled to start at 10:30 AM local time. There is a possibility that one of the practice sessions could be cancelled!

Further delay - The 1st Practice is now scheduled to start at 10:15 AM local time. This now means that either qualifying will also be delayed or it will be ruled as an exceptional circumstance.

The FIA sporting regulations state that the interval between free practice and Qualifying may never be less than 1 hour and 30 minutes. This means that the second 45 minutes practice session will have to start immediately after the end of the first 45 minutes practice session in order for Qualifying to start at 1:00 PM. Of course there is provision for exceptional circumstances. Session now expected to start in 10 minutes.

The session has been delayed again!

Well it is now raining at Spa! - Session expected to start in 5 minutes.

It will be interesting to see how McLaren and Williams do against the Ferrari's today. Also Jordan appeared strong.
The weather forecast at the moment is for partly cloudy skies all day with a 20% chance of rain. A 30% chance of showers are forecast during the race on Sunday!

Yesterday Michael Schumacher dominated the 1st practice session and was over 0.7 seconds faster than Jarno Trulli in second place. The second practice session was interrupted by rain. Michael Schumacher crashed into Pedro de la Rosa as a result of poor visibility.

The reason for the delay is that helicopters cannot fly in this kind of weather and helicopters must be available for safety reasons.

The session has been delayed a further 15 minutes with an expected start time of 9:30 local time.
