2020 won’t be Vettel’s last visit to Spa

Aug.29 (GMM) Sebastian Vettel has dropped a big hint about his future.

Although reports that he will definitely sign a 2021 Aston Martin contract this weekend at Spa appear to have been wide of the mark, the Ferrari refugee is at least now suggesting that he will not retire.

When asked by Sky Deutschland if this weekend is his last visit to Spa-Francorchamps, the quadruple world champion smiled: “I think I can come here at any time.

“We’ll see if I will be driving a fast car. But I don’t think it will be my last time here.

“I still have many years ahead of me.”

Ferrari’s 2020 crisis hit a new low in Belgian GP practice when the two red cars slumped to 15th and 17th on Friday.

When asked how frustrating that is, Vettel answered: “There are always two approaches – get frustrated, or stand up and get on with it.

“That’s what I’m here for – I’m always optimistic,” said the 33-year-old German.

  1. Sebastian Vettel is correct that there’s no point in being frustrated by the fact that he is driving for a racing team that has forgotten how to prepare itself, its drivers and its machines for a race. The Team Principal’s “explanation” for his miserable performance rates right up there with President Trump’s: it wasn’t his fault; it was the tyres’ fault and the fault of the circuit not being “right” for their machine. A circuit that is almost universally revered for its test of drivers and machines is to blame for Ferrari’s inablity to earn a single point. Any Team Principal worth his pay would have left the cars in the garage for the race and explained to the F.I.A. and the promoters that the engines refused to fire today. When you can’t get either LeClerc or Vettel in the points and when every machine with Ferrari power can’t earn any points, it is time to go home. I love Ferrari the same way I love Williams and McLaren, for their history. But no team is worth paying any attention to that cannot compete. Poor Vettel, you may say. But I say poor LeClerc and poor Sainz. Remember when Lewis went to Mercedes? Oh what a mistake everyone said. Why Red Bull doesn’t hire Seb back must have something to do with the Team Principal. Why Haas doesn’t drop Ferrari and get a Renault or Honda and Seb Vettel is the real mystery
