Spanish GP - 1st Friday Practice

Final Order: Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello, Felipe Massa, Kimi Raikkonen, Jarno Trulli and Heinz Harald Frentzen make the top 6.
Coulthard, Heidfeld, Fisichella, Bernoldi, Button, R Schumacher, Panis, Salo, Montoya, de la Rosa, Villeneuve, Irvine, McNish, Webber and Yoong make the rest of the field. Takuma Sato failed to set a time as his car stopped on the track on his out lap. 

60 min: Session over. Improvement on the final lap don't appear likely. 

58 min: Final run for the drivers this session. 

56 min: Felipe Massa who is in 3rd place goes off into the gravel but recovers. 

55 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Massa, Raikkonen, Trulli, Frentzen, Coulthard, Heidfeld, Fisichella and Bernoldi. Sato is out of the session. 

53 min: 7 minutes to go and there have been no improvements for the last 10 minutes. Yoong has so far covered the most number of laps with 17. 

51 min: Barrichello sets the fastest time in the first sector but fails to improve overall. 

49 min: Barrichello is on the track and lapping close to this best but hasn't improved yet! 

47 min: There are no improvements at this stage. 

45 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Massa, Raikkonen, Trulli, Frentzen, Coulthard, Heidfeld, Fisichella and Bernoldi. Sato is out of the session. 

43 min: And Alex Yoong trying hard spins!.

42 min: After 15 laps, Alex Yoong remains in 22nd place and over a second slower than his team-mate Mark Webber (who covered 12 laps so far)

41 min: David Coulthard improves into 7th place with a time of 1:21.861.

40 min: Apart from Ferrari at the front and Minardi at the back, the times between all the teams are very close. Under 2 seconds separates those 18 cars!

39 min: Mika Salo moves into 13th with a time of 1:22.289. 

38 min: Enrique Bernoldi improves his time but remains in 9th with a 1:22.126. 

37 min: David Coulthard moves into 16th with a time of 1:22.761. Mika Salo on track. 

36 min: David Coulthard on the track on his way to set his first time of the day. 

35 min: A number of drivers are on the track but there are no improvements as the teams concentrate on race trim. Of course they have the benefit of testing here so they have a good set-up 

34 min: The Williams are not looking good at this early stage with Ralf Schumacher in 11th and Juan Pablo Montoya in 13th! 

33 min: McNish and Panis have so far covered the most number of laps with 11 laps each. 

32 min: 3 drivers haven't set lap times: Coulthard, Salo and Sato (won't set a time this session) 

31 min: At this initial stage, the Ferraris are half a second ahead of everyone else. 

30 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Massa, Raikkonen, Trulli, Frentzen, Heidfeld, Fisichella, Bernoldi and Button. Sato is out of the session. 

29 min: Rubens Barrichello improves into second with a time of 1:20.742. Raikkonen moves into 4th with a time of 1:21.472. Ralf Schumacher sets a time of 1:22.223. 

28 min: Michael Schumacher goes fastest with a time of 1:20.681. Montoya sets a time of 1:22.370. 

28 min: Barrichello goes 9th with a time of 1:22.505. Raikkonen on track. 

27 min: Yoong goes through the gravel but recovers. Trulli moves straight into second with a time of 1:21.631. The 2 Williams are on the track. 

26 min: The 2 Renaults are on the track and so do the 2 Ferraris for the first time. 

25 min: Top 10 - Massa, Frentzen, Heidfeld, Fisichella, Bernoldi, Panis, de la Rosa, Irvine, McNish and Villeneuve. Sato is out of the session. 

24 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen goes second with a time of 1:21.640 

23 min: Pedro de la Rosa goes 6th ahead of Irvine with a time of 1:22.430. Villeneuve moves into 9th with a time of 1:23.103. Frentzen on a flying lap!. 

22 min: Nick Heidfeld goes second with a time of 1:21.950. Villeneuve on track. 

21 min: Nick Heidfeld and Pedro de la Rosa join the action. 

20 min: Top 6 - Massa, Fisichella, Bernoldi, Panis, Irvine and McNish. Sato is out of the session. 

19 min: Olivier Panis takes 4th from Irvine with a 1:22.277. 

19 min: Bernoldi sets a time of 1:22.230 while Irvine sets a time of 1:22.922. 

18 min: Giancarlo Fisichella goes second with a time of 1:21.981. Bernoldi, Panis and Irvine on track 

18 min: Felipe Massa goes fastest with a time of 1:21.364. That is an impressive time from a rookie! 

17 min: Mark Webber improves with a time of 1:23.480. Remains in second. 

16 min: Only 3 drivers have set times so far. This isn't a surprise as most of the teams use this track as their main testing venue during the off season. Felipe Massa and Giancarlo Fisichella go out on the track. 

15 min: Mark Webber on his first timed lap goes second with a time of 1:24.264. 

14 min: Yoong improves to 1:24.598. 

13 min: McNish improves with a 1:23.481. Mark Webber goes out on the track. It will be interesting to see the time he sets against Yoong. 

11 min: Alex Yoong improves with a time of 1:25.086. 

9 min: Alex Yoong will be under a lot of pressure to qualify here as he failed to do so in San Marino. McNish sets a time of 1:23.481. 

8 min: Alex Yoong sets the first timed lap of the session with a 1:27.300. Allan McNish also out on a long run.

6 min: Alex Yoong goes back out on the track for a longer run. Villeneuve and Panis back in the pits.

4 min: Villeneuve and Panis are on the track now. No time laps yet.

3 min: The drivers are now back in the pits after completing their installation laps. Only the Ferraris and the BARs have yet to go out.

2 min: More drivers take to the track with Ralf Schumacher and Jenson Button.

1 min: Takuma Sato is out of the session after slowing down as he exited the pits. Session over for him and bad news for Jordan.
